Today is Singapore Nurses’ Day. Nurses are on the frontline of our healthcare system. They have a difficult job – not only do they administer treatments, but they also provide care and comfort to patients. Often, they finish a long shift at the hospital to continue being caregivers to their own families!
I met Mdm Kuttiammal Sundarasan, the Chief Nurse at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, at its opening in 2015. She received the President’s Award for Nurses this year – well-deserved recognition for her years of service and dedication to a profession that has shaped her life. (You can read her story here: http://str.sg/4Dt3)
We remember our doctors’ names, but often our nurses soldier on without recognition. Yet anyone who has been a caregiver for a loved one knows what a difficult task it is. Thank you for your service, and a Happy Nurses’ Day to all our wonderful nurses! – LHL
